Relay for Life of Culver kicks off Friday evening, and this year’s theme will be honoring the 2016 Olympics.
The event is used as a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. Since its inception in 2008, the Culver Relay for Life event has raised more than $800-thousand. Participants can register or donate to the group.
In keeping with this year’s Olympics theme, those participating as teams are being asked to represent a country – with flags, or other memorabilia displayed. Olympic themed laps around a track and special contests will also be hosted through the night. According to a press release, teams raising the most money will be given gold, silver, or bronze medals.
As with Relay for Life events around the country, participants may also take the evening to honor those battling cancer, or who have passed due to the disease. Luminaria will be available with a photo and name attached representing the afflicted individual will be available.
Relay for Life of Culver will begin at 6:00 p.m. on Friday at the Culver Academies Multi-Purpose Building.
