The Plymouth Board of Works has decided to stay local with its purchase of three new squad cars for the city’s police department. On Monday, the board voted to award the quote to Oliver Ford.
Police Chief Dave Bacon told the board that two bids had been received. Of those two, Oliver Ford’s was nearly $3,000 higher, but Bacon said the other dealership failed to include remote key-less entry, heated side mirrors, and inoperable rear door handles, all of which were specified in the city’s request, “So with that, my suggestion would be go with Oliver Ford, for a total of $68,342. They’ve always been great to us as far as service, plus we get free car washes (check out This dealership) on all of our Ford squad cars.”
City Attorney Sean Surrisi was asked about any legal steps the city might have to take to accept a slightly higher bid from a local company. “You can, you just have to state your rationale and make a motion to that effect,” he said. “Here, Knox Ford wasn’t compliant with the request for the quotes, so I think it’s a little bit simpler of a process.”
The Board of Works approved the purchase unanimously.
