A potentially life-saving piece of technology will be available for free to some Marshall County residents. Tomorrow morning, the Marshall County Emergency Management Agency will be distributing all-hazard weather radios to those most at risk from the threat of severe weather. These include people who live in mobile homes or homes without a basement, the elderly, and those with special needs.
Marshall County EMA is partnering with the Marshall County Amateur Radio Club for the distribution effort, in recognition of Severe Weather Preparedness Week, which runs through Saturday. According to the Indiana Department of Homeland Security, the radios can pick up more than 60 types of emergency alert, including updates directly from the National Weather Service. IDHS officials say being able to get an early warning gives citizens the chance to take the appropriate action to keep themselves safe.
The distribution event takes place tomorrow from 10 a.m. until noon at the Emergency Management Office, located at the Marshall County Building at 112 West Jefferson Street in Plymouth. There will be a limit of one radio per person, and they’ll be available on a fist come, first-served basis.
Volunteers will be available to program the radios, but residents will need to bring three AA batteries.
