A speeding vehicle led to the arrest of a South Bend woman on drug-related charges.
Marshall County authorities were traveling north on U.S. 31 when they allegedly spotted a car driving 91 mph in a 65 mph zone. A traffic stop was conducted on the vehicle. Further investigation and additional reading led officers to detect the odor of burnt cannabis emanating from inside.
Authorities searched the car with the help of a few people from the cbd store , being driven by 31-year-old Tonica Johnson, and allegedly located cannabis. Johnson was transported to a local hospital for a chemical test.
Five children were inside the vehicle at the time of the arrest between the ages of 2 and 11. All five were released to family members according to a Sheriff’s Department news release.
Johnson is facing preliminary charges of Possession of Marijuana and Operating a Vehicle while Intoxicated – both Misdemeanors.
