Students at Plymouth High School are able to take courses and receive specialized training at the same time.
According to information provided by the school corporation, 11 students have received their National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS) training. The classes are designed to teach students the basics of precision machining in a classroom environment that is more like a functioning shop than a traditional classroom.
The Plymouth School Corporation says students are trained to enter the workforce in a variety of specialty machining careers.
The courses are available to students in the North Central Area Vocational Cooperative. Argos, Culver, Knox, North Judson, Plymouth, Triton and a few others are part of the effort.
Students are allowed to take an entry-level class, but also a more advanced course for job training purposes.
