A commercial printing business in Bourbon is receiving help to expand following a tax abatement approved on Tuesday.
The Bourbon Town Council considered the proposal during their Town Council meeting this week – which included a proposed 10-year property tax levy, and personal property tax abatement. Steps were taken during a public hearing held in January that saw land where Harmony Press resides deemed an economic revitalization area.
The tax abatement is part of larger investments Harmony Press is making, including $1.5-million in the purchase and set-up of new machinery. Another $250-thousand is planned for investment in the expansion of the facility.
According to information provided by the Marshall County Economic Development Corporation, Harmony Press is considered a major employer in the Bourbon community with more than 60 employees. It’s a third generation business operating out of Bourbon. It started operations in 1968.
The investments are expected to allow the company to operate more efficiently while being able to retain employees at the location.
