The Culver Town Council will be working with downtown merchants this evening to discuss the possibility of sidewalk snow removal.
Ideas were brought up weeks ago after several businesses approached the Town about removing snow from the sidewalks as a service. Individual downtown businesses have typically handled sidewalk snow removal, themselves.
The problem, according to previous discussion, is that businesses scoop their sidewalks at different times. Worse yet, some vacant locations don’t shovel snow at all, making for inconsistent walkability.
By putting the service under the Town, local businesses can avoid the liability of performing the work while doing so more efficiently.
The Culver Town Council will address the matter in work session beginning at 5:45 p.m. EST at Culver Town Hall.
Following that, the Council will meet for its regular session. The Town intends to extend contract services for refuse and trash removal with Republic Services. The company has been serving the Town of Culver, but was met with positive reviews by those in attendance at the previous Town Council meeting.
Architects will also be present to present a master plan for bike and pedestrian paths in the community.
