The Town of Culver plans to meet with the owners of their local CVS Pharmacy location in the near future to discuss proposed changes to land adjacent to the property.
During Tuesday night’s Culver Town Council meeting, it was learned that the Hamstra Group, the company which owns the CVS location in Culver, was seeking an ordinance for the alley behind the store. The idea is to make the alley a one-way, allowing for a prescription pick-up and drive-thru counter.
Town Council President Ginny Bess Munroe says the project likely would require renovations, so why not expand the renovations a bit.
“If you’re renovating for that, there could be an exit built in, or something could be put into the new design where they could exit on the other side,” says Munroe.
That’s because the request also included as a separate easement for an agreement that would allow CVS to place their dumpster in one section of a Town-owned parking lot. In exchange, CVS would manage and care for the parking lot site.
Merchants in attendance raised questions about the proposal, saying their employees use the parking lot as a place to park during work hours. In addition, they fear CVS would eventually begin restricting public use of the site to their benefit.
Munroe says there are things she likes about the plan, and things she doesn’t.
“I don’t have any issue with the alley and doing some upgrades and a pass-through window,” says Munroe. “I agree with the merchants, we have a bit of a parking issue anyway.”
The Culver Town Council requested that the Town’s administration set-up a time to meeting with representatives of the Hamstra Group, Inc. to determine whether they were accurately interpreting the request and to ensure proper consideration.
An ordinance has been developed in the instance the Town Council decides to move forward with the proposal.
