An Argos man was sentenced on Wednesday to 30 years in the Indiana Department of Corrections following an investigation for child sex crimes.
The matter was first investigated in 2015 after the Argos Chief of Police questioned 36-year-old Robert Stafford. Officers were acting on information provided by a family member of Stafford who accused him of molesting the victim when they were six years of age. Stafford allegedly said the claims were true during questioning.
According to information provided by the Marshall County Prosecutor’s office, Stafford pleaded guilty to the charges of Child Molesting. Stafford will now serve a 30 year sentence and must register as a sex offender upon his release.
The Prosecutor’s office is using the case as a way to encourage victims of sex crimes to come forward with their allegations.
Stafford will remain jailed in Marshall County until he is transported to the Indiana Department of Corrections.
