College students with an interest in civil engineering or transportation can take advantage of opportunities offered by the Indiana Department of Transportation. Applications for Governor’s Summer Internships and civil engineering scholarships are currently being accepted.
Governor’s Public Service Summer Internship applications are due Feb. 26th. Positions are available at INDOT’s offices in Crawfordsville, Fort Wayne, Gary, Greenfield, Indianapolis, Jeffersonville, LaPorte, Seymour and Vincennes. Interns earn $11.30 per hour and will spend at least half of their time on a predetermined project that enhances college-level skills and abilities. Candidates must be enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate with an accredited post-secondary institution and have completed at least one year of undergraduate education. Students who are graduating in May 2016 are eligible to apply.

INDOT’s civil-engineering scholarship program offers $3,124 per semester or $2,083 per trimester for up to five years of post-secondary civil engineering education. Those funds can be used for educational expenses, fees and books. Recipients will work for INDOT in a variety of full-time, paid positions during their summer breaks and upon graduation.
Students must be accepted or enrolled full-time in one of Indiana’s Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology certified civil engineering programs. They include Indiana University Purdue University Fort Wayne, Purdue University, Purdue University Calumet, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, Trine University, University of Evansville, University of Notre Dame and Valparaiso University.
