A new video recording system that looks to improve communication between the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department and Prosecutor’s offices has received approval.
The Marshall County Council this week approved paying for the additional expense out of the CAGIT fund.
The iRecord system is planned to be used by Marshall County Sheriff’s Department investigators to access more camera angles during suspect and victim interviews. The number of cameras will open more rooms for interviews to take place, but also log the videos digitally.
The Prosecutor’s office can then access the videos from a database; a far cry from the current method of running DVD’s between the offices. Prosecutor Nelson Chipman says higher quality footage is required to analyze possibly deceitful statements
Work to implement the upgrades started well before Sheriff Matt Hassel was elected to the office last year. The video recording and camera system is expected to cost about $18-thousand. The expense will be shared by the Prosecutor’s office and Sheriff’s Department.
The Marshall County Council approved the purchase, unanimously.
