Plymouth Schools Accepts Bid for Construction Upgrades

Plymouth School CorporationThe Plymouth School Board has chosen the firm that will eventually construct additional space onto the school corporation’s administration building.

Bids for the project were reviewed during Tuesday night’s school board meeting. An updates to restrooms, concession stands, and the administration building are in addition to updates to the grandstand at the High School football fields.

Multiple companies bid the second portion of the project. Plymouth Schools Director of Operations Dave Schoof says there was a good response during the bid process.

“We are under budget, but very close,” says Schoof. “I feel that we’ve discovered quite a bit. At this point, with our drawings and our specs, we’re very tight on it at this point.”

Plymouth schools is issuing bonds to help pay for the upgrades.

For this part of the construction, the school corporation says an expansion of the administration building is needed not just for additional meeting space, but also for hard copies for file storage and other data.

The focus, for now, is to complete construction on the athletic facility upgrades to meet deadlines for student participation. Schoof says cooperative weather can affect the construction schedule.

“They can begin with a commitment to proceed and then we can get contracts going and they would probably be starting sometime in mid-march doing footings, weather permitting,” says Schoof.

Work to the administration building is slated to begin in October of this year.

The low bid for the work came in at $1.26-million. School board members awarded Majority Buildings with the contract. The school corporation also finalized changes to their bonding policy to help finance the work.
