There are just a few weeks left to nominate torchbearers for the Indiana Bicentennial celebration. Nomination forms are due Sunday, January 31.
Nominees will have the chance to be selected to carry the Bicentennial Torch, as it passes through the area in October. Torchbearers must be current or former residents of the county in which they’re being nominated and should be people who have made an impact in their communities. People of all ages can be nominated, and posthumous nominations with a substitute torchbearer will also be accepted. Torchbearers will be expected to carry the torch at least a quarter mile.
The Bicentennial Torch will travel through all 92 Indiana counties before arriving at the Statehouse in Indianapolis on October 15. For more information or to nominate someone, visit the Indiana Bicentennial Celebration website. The final list of torchbearers is expected to be announced in June.
