Bundle up before you head outside, as we’re in for another frigid day. The National Weather Service advises the coldest air of the season is ushering in bitter wind chills.
They’ll hit 15 to 20 below zero this morning. Frostbite of exposed skin can occur within 30 minutes. Today is Martin Luther King Day, and some schools are closed in honor of the late civil rights leader’s birthday. Many of the schools that are open are operating on two-hour delays due to the frigid temperatures. Find the latest information our closings and delays page. Bring pets inside if possible, and make sure their water isn’t frozen.
In addition to the cold, lake effect snow showers are possible closer to Lake Michigan. Overall accumulations won’t be very heavy, but the fluffy nature of the snow will make it easy to blow. Motorists should prepare for reduced visibilities and allow extra travel time.
