Plymouth’s Jefferson Elementary Students Showcase Robotics Skills

Plymouth School CorporationStudents at Jefferson Elementary School have developed quite a knack for the robotic.

During Tuesday night’s Plymouth School Board meeting, a handful of students had an opportunity to give a presentation on the Jefferson Elementary Robotics Club’s activities and objectives. Each meeting, the school board receives a presentation from a different school activity.

Four teams of 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade students at the school design, build, and test their robots over the course of several weeks. The club meets once each week, sometimes using their daily recess for working on their devices.

The Plymouth School Board received an in-depth demonstration from the students, who showcased their robots’ abilities to retrieve objects and place them in a specified location.

Jefferson Elementary students recently had an opportunity to travel to Crown Point, Indiana to test their robots in competition.

The robotics club showcases STEM learning opportunities. The students will use the skills as they progress through the Plymouth School Corporation in other areas of engineering and programming.
