Plymouth Council to Hold Tax Abatement Hearing, Decide on Fire Department Schedule Changes

Plymouth IndianaThe Plymouth Common Council will hear comments from the public this evening regarding a tax abatement for the WestRock factory. WestRock is planning a $5.2 million upgrade at its Plymouth facility, which manufactures packaging used at fast food restaurants.

The council will also hold a third reading for an amendment to the 2016 Salary Ordinance. It’s designed to give Fire Department employees more consecutive days off as part of their work schedule without changing the number of total number of days worked. The idea was brought up by some of the employees in the Fire Department, but others say it wouldn’t give them enough time to rest between the days they’re on duty.

Second and third readings will also be held for an ordinance setting salaries for elected officials in 2016, while an ordinance to adopt the Department of Parks and Recreation’s fee schedule will be brought to a first reading.

Tonight’s meeting is scheduled to start at 6:30, following the Plymouth Board of Works meeting at 6:00.
