Freezing Rain, Flooding Possible Today

National Weather ServiceThe last week of 2015 is off to a dreary start in the weather department. A freezing rain advisory is in effect across the area until mid-afternoon. This means periods of freezing rain will cause travel difficulties due to light ice accumulations. Motorists are urged to slow down and use caution while driving.

East winds with speeds between 25 and 35 miles per hour with gusts in the 40 to 45 mile per hour range are also expected throughout the day. The combination of strong winds and potential ice accumulations may result in some tree damage and power outages. The strong winds can make driving difficult, especially in high-profile vehicles.

In addition to the wind and freezing rain, a flash flood watch remains in effect for Pulaski and Fulton Counties. An additional inch of rainfall on top of weekend accumulations could cause rivers, streams and other low-lying or poor drainage areas to flood, according to the National Weather Service. A watch means conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding. Residents in flood-prone areas are urged to monitor forecasts throughout the day and be prepared to take action should flash flood warnings be issued.
