Weeks of waiting have resulted in a new police chief in Bremen.
The Town began the search process weeks ago for a new police chief after the resignation of former Police Chief Matt Hassel. He was elected Sheriff of Marshall County earlier this year.
Bremen has been operating with an interim police chief, but conducted a candidate search to find a permanent, full-time replacement. Bremen Town Manager Trend Weldy says the Town Council unanimously appointed Brad Kile at their meeting Thursday night.
“He was born and raised in the town of Bremen, he’s been on the police department for 19 or 20 years,” says Weldy. “He’s just a good candidate for the position.”
Kile was anticipated to take over the job a couple of weeks ago, but lack of attendance by Bremen Town Council members at a meeting, and a legal error in a future meeting notice postponed a decision until late this week.
Kile brings years of experience to the position, serving with the Bremen Police Department. Weldy says the Town wanted to fill the position with someone who knew the community.
He says there may be discussions between the Police Department and the Town for possible changes in the department.
“I haven’t gone over that whole process with him yet. I’m sure as a new guy coming in, everybody has different ideas, and I’m sure he’ll try to implement some of those ideas,” says Weldy.
Following his election as Sheriff, Matt Hassel said there were a couple of names he was considering for a recommendation for the police chief position.
The Town of Bremen says Kile will start in the position immediately.
