Traffic Stop Leads to Drug and Weapons Arrest

police-lightsA North Liberty man faces drug and weapons charges in Marshall County after a Sunday night traffic stop.

A sheriff’s department patrol officer stopped a vehicle driven by 25-year-old Jeffrey Lewis, II for speeding in the 100 block of North Michigan Road just before 8 p.m.

The officer reportedly detected an odor associated with that of burnt marijuana during the traffic stop. A search of the vehicle turned up a substance believed to be marijuana and a Glock 40 caliber handgun, which Lewis did not have a license to carry.

A small child in the vehicle was turned over to family members. Formal charges are pending.
