The City of Plymouth is kicking off the Christmas season this evening with its Holly Jolly Christmas Celebration.
Before tonight’s parade and tree lighting, head to the Journey Church at the corner of Water and Garro Streets for a Christmas movie and ornament decorating beginning at 4:00 p.m. Additioanlly, the Marshall County Historical Society Museum will be running its model trains between 4:00 and 6:00 p.m.
Plymouth Chamber of Commerce executive director Connie Holzwart says that’s just the beginning, “Festivities actually begin around 5:00 with a kids craft here at the Plymouth Chamber of Commerce. We are also hoping to have some live music and entertainment starting at 5:30, and then we have a Parade of Lights, which begins at 6:00.”
She says the parade will lead up to the city’s tree lighting, “The parade route starts in front of 1st Source Bank, which is by Adams Street, and heads south through Downtown Plymouth and then turns on LaPorte Street, and it heads down to River Park Square, where Mayor Mark Senter will be on a platform, where he will announce the lighting of the Christmas tree, which is located at Bowen Printing.”
Holzwart says the festivities will continue after the tree lighting, “We’ll have fireworks. Then after the fireworks display, everybody needs to continue on down to River Park Square, where the Parks Department will present a light show, and after the light show, everybody is welcome to go into the museum, especially if you have children. Santa will be there, so the kids can visit with Santa Claus and have their picture taken.”
Free hot chocolate and cookies will be served during the event.
Expect street closures downtown between 5:30 and 7:00 p.m.
