Local Corporations Receive Secured School Safety Grants

news-3Several school corporations in Marshall County are recipients of Secured School Safety Grant funds from the state. The program provides matching funds to school corporations to conduct a threat assessment, purchase equipment or restrict access to the school or expedite notice to first responders to hire a school resource officer.

Argos, Bremen and Culver Community School Corporations all got grants for equipment purchases, according to a news release from the governor’s office. Argos received $35,000, Bremen got $20,000 and Culver Community was awarded $23,761.43.

Pence calls the program a “valuable partnership between our local schools and the state” and says “the safety of our kids is our highest priority.”

This is the third year grant funds have been awarded. Money comes from the program’s original $3.5 million allocation, $3.5 million from excess Indiana Department of Homeland Security grant funds and more than $3 million in unspent and unallocated funds from previous years.
