Local businesses are once again teaming up to collect winter coats for those in need.
The 17th annual Warm Up Marshall County Coat Drive runs from now until November 19. Organizer Steve Keiser says they’re looking to collect between 400 and 600 gently-used coats, “It’s getting close, and the numbers aren’t where we anticipated. So anybody that’s got a coat or two in the closet that as they open up the doors that they haven’t worn in a year or so, if it’s nice and clean, bring it in. Otherwise, if they have a coat that maybe needs to be cleaned, Xaver Cleaners here in Plymouth will clean or dry-clean any coat that needs it for only four dollars, so it’s a great deal for the person as well as far as the donation.”
He says the coat drive has helped many people in Marshall County over the years thanks to the efforts of some local businesses, “It started many years ago with the partnership of Oliver Ford and Price’s Valet Cleaners, and it’s evolved now into basically five major sponsors. We’ve handed out between 10- or 12- thousand coats to the community over the last 17 years.”
Drop-off points for coat donations include Beacon Credit Union, Morrow Insurance, Oliver Ford, and The Pilot News. This year, the Warm Up Marshall County Coat Drive is also getting help from Walmart to buy brand new coats to supplement the donations.
The coats will be distributed Saturday, November 21 from 10:00 a.m. to noon and Sunday, November 22 from noon to 2:00 p.m. at the Plymouth National Guard Armory.
