Ancilla College is one step closer to building its second residence hall.
Director of Marketing and Social Media Amanda Petrucelli says 1st Source Bank approved the loan for the new facility Tuesday. She says the college’s board of trustees is expected to approve the financial arrangements November 16, and a groundbreaking’s planned for November 17, “According to [Ancilla College] President Dr. Zirkle, our builders would be ready to go as soon as he says ‘go,’ so it’s just a matter of following the correct procedures before we put a shovel in the ground.”
She says there should be plenty of time for the new dorm to be finished before the start of the fall 2016 semester, “We didn’t break ground on the current residence hall until February or March of 2015, and students were ready to move in at the end of August. So there is every reason to believe, since we’re still working with Michael Kinder & Sons out of Fort Wayne and Design Collaborative, that they will be able to complete the building because they’re getting an additional two or three months’ head start.”
Petrucelli says workers are currently putting the finishing touches on the college’s new dining hall and student life center, and that facility should be open to students next month, “We’re very excited with the positive steps that Ancilla is taking. It’s a great time to be a part of Ancilla College, and with the addition of three new degree programs and many athletic teams and athletic programs, this is just another example of how we’re on a trajectory for success. We expect 600 students at fall of 2016.”
The existing residence hall is filled beyond capacity, and on-campus housing has caused a significant increase in enrollment.
