Ancilla College Announces New Degree Programs

Ancilla College NEWAncilla College is adding three new degree programs next year. Students will be able to study sports management, hospitality and tourism and culinary arts management. The new offerings will bring the total number of two-year degree programs at the private, liberal arts school to 21.

In a statement, Ancilla College President Dr. Ken Zirkle said, “Students want degrees that are market-driven. They want to walk out knowing they are going to be able to get a job or easily transfer to a four-year college. That was the motive behind the push for creating new programs.”

The hospitality and tourism program will prepare students for careers in Indiana’s fourth-largest economic sector. Job opportunities include food and beverage manager, human resources, lodging management, travel and tourism management and casino management. Students will gain general business and management knowledge in addition to a liberal arts education.

School officials also predict a boom in sports management jobs in the next decade. They include sports director, coach and athletic director, recreational sports director, sports marketing, sports information director and sports agent. Ancilla College Athletic Director Gene Reese notes the field of study will give student-athletes opportunities to remain involved after their playing days end.

Ancilla will also offer an associate of applied science in culinary arts starting next year. It will prepare students for successful careers in food preparation, cooking, baking, food safety and restaurant management.
