
A pair of former football coaches from the area were among those killed in a Friday plane crash in South Carolina. 71-year-old Charlie Smith and 51-year-old Scott Bibler both coached at Tippecanoe Valley, where Smith’s son, 44-year-old Scott Smith, played basketball.
The men and 54-year-old Tony Elliott were en route from Warsaw to South Carolina for Saturday’s Notre Dame versus Clemson football game when their small plane crashed near the South Carolina-Georgia state line. The cause of the crash is under investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board.
