Plymouth Police responded to Martin’s Supermarket on Thursday afternoon for a report of a man who had just taken an item from the store. The officer spotted him running north near Berkley Street and chased him into an open garage on Wilson Street.

A scuffle reportedly ensued, and the suspect wiggled out of his jacket and took off again. The officer found him hiding under a deck on Wilson Street, according to the arrest report. A detective with the Plymouth Police Department received a cut to his arm during the struggle with the man, whom officers said provided a false name when he was apprehended.

They later learned he is 19-year-old Travion L. Qualls of Plymouth and found the bottle of alcohol he was accused of stealing nearby. Records indicate Qualls was arrested on Sept. 22 for stealing the same alcoholic beverage and had been ordered not to trespass at Martin’s Supermarket. He is also on probation in Elkhart County. His bond in Marshall County is set at $10,000 cash on charges of theft, resisting law enforcement resulting in injury, trespassing and false informing.
