A Columbia City woman is jailed in Marshall County following an early morning police pursuit. It started with an attempted traffic stop on U.S. 30 at King Road just after 2:30 a.m.
An officer with the Marshall County Police Department tried to pull over a 2000 Dodge Neon for an equipment violation. The driver fled eastbound on U.S. 30 and reportedly reached speeds near 120 miles per hour before crashing through a fence on U.S. 30 near Cedar Road.
The police report indicates the vehicle continued through the field and into a ditch full of water. Officers found the car and used a K9 to locate the driver, 19-year-old Vanessa McCracken. She was lying in another ditch. She was taken to the hospital in Plymouth for evaluation and released to the Marshall County Jail. Preliminary charges include resisting law enforcement with a vehicle, false informing, aggressive driving and leaving the scene of an accident.
