Culver Town Council Discusses Future Plans with Park Board

culver-town-hallThe Culver Town Council is working with their Park Board on plans for the coming year.

Both bodies met during a joint work session meeting on Tuesday evening to cover land use, revenue, and a Master Plan for the Town Park. That plan is still in draft form, being described as early in the process.

Town Manager Jonathan Leist says the document should be finalized by January 15th – which is the deadline to be grant eligible from the state in 2016.

“It’s just kind of discussing how it’s coming along and just making sure we meet that deadline if possible,” says Leist. “I think as far as the actual items on it, the big focus is the park building and the grounds which council was aware of that ahead of time.”

Part of that Master Plan continues to involve updates to the Town Park Building, otherwise known as the beach lodge. Those updates are also considered early in the process.

Culver received a planning grant from the Office of Community and Rural Affairs to help complete the project. Leist says they’re considering a list of possible companies to help them complete the work.

“We have narrowed it down to two companies to work with on this planning grant to help us determine the best use of the building to give us some alternatives and prices for rehabbing the building,” says Leist.

Those meetings are taking place today.

The Master Plan will eventually need to receive the recommendation of the Park Board and approval by the Town Council.

Leist says the Town Council also reviewed a new Town policy regarding events on publicly owned land. The Culver Town Park is planning to be a more consistent location for summer events and concerts in the coming years.
