The Starke County Museum and county historian Ed Hasnerl recently hosted a roundtable meeting of county historians. Jeanette Rooney is the Assistant Director for local history services at the Indiana Historical society. She says each of Indiana’s 92 counties has an appointed volunteer historian as part of a program co-sponsored by the Indiana Historical Society and Indiana Historical Bureau.
Rooney says they are a great resource for local history. Each fall regional meetings are conducted around the state where the historians gather and chat about local history happenings in their counties. Historians from Marshall, Carrol, LaPorte and Montgomery Counties were in attendance.
