SJHS Plymouth Medical Center Emergency Room Dedicated

The St. Joseph Health System Plymouth Medical Center dedicated a major addition to the hospital on Thursday.

The Daisy and John L. Oliver Emergency Center saw hospital representatives and public elected officials gather for words of encouragement about the future of the facility. The $9-million emergency room was developed with funds from Trinity Health.

Hospital Board Chairman John Zeglis says there are many important factors that brought the project together.

“We’re all here today for basically the same reason,” says Zeglis. “It’s because we all care, and care a lot about what this E.R. means for the quality of life of our neighbors.”

The facility took 18-months to construct, being completed in June of this year, and contains more than a dozen rooms for the treatment of patients. The addition brings the emergency room to 8-thousand square feet.

A capital campaign was also started in the Marshall County community that saw $1.2-million dollars raised in the past 18 months for the addition.

Invited speakers discussed the enhancement to quality of care the emergency room addition brings to Plymouth. Co-Chairing the development of the project, however, fell to the son of the emergency room’s namesake: John J. Oliver.

“The message here is not about me, it’s about what is represented by the sacrifice of my parents,” says Oliver. “Everything that we’ve been able to do as a family in this community is because of their sacrifice.”

The site was blessed during the ceremony by the Pastor at St. Michael’s Church.

Tours of the facility were offered to members of the public attending the dedication.
