The Marshall County Economic Development Corporation says communities are now working toward similar goals in Marshall County.
During a belated presentation to the Marshall County Commissioners this week, MCEDC Executive Director Jerry Chavez shared information from the organization’s annual report. The document details the activities completed over the past year, but also shares financial information about their operations.
Chavez says the most recent report is much more county-wide.
“We are very mindful and purposeful in the body as well to showcase each community and what they’re doing by way of participating and priorities for their economic development plan,” says Chavez.
Marshall County has performed well compared to the same period one year ago.
Unemployment has dropped to below 4-percent, down from 5.8-percent compared to the previous year.
Part of MCEDC’s effort involves showcasing what each community is attempting to achieve. Culver, Bremen, and Plymouth are working to attract the development of affordable housing.
Chavez says strong investment brings new challenges.
“When you put that demand in creating that many jobs, driving that unemployment figure lower, then it does create a demand in the marketplace for workers,” says Chavez.
Chavez also says that the communities of Marshall County are working to identify projects. Often their development is being conducted on a step-by-step basis.
Commissioners accepted the report for review and to ask Chavez a few questions about development taking place along U.S. 30 in Marshall County.
