INDOT Suspends Road Construction for Labor Day

Hoosier motorists will get a break from road construction over the Labor Day weekend. INDOT plans to suspend all possible road restrictions starting at 5 this evening and continuing through 8 a.m. Tuesday.

Restrictions and work zone speed limits will remain in place on some larger scale projects for the sake of safety. These include State Road 23 in Walkerton, which is closed to all traffic between U.S. 6 and Tyler Road. Lanes will remain shut down on I-80/94 through Lake and Porter Counties. Motorists traveling through northwest Indiana should expect slow and stopped traffic due to high volumes of holiday travelers. U.S. 41/State Road 152 in Lake County is also reduced to one lane in stretches between I-80/94 and U.S. 20 for road rehabilitation, and State Road 55 in Crown Point is closed between 129th Street and State Road 2 for road reconstruction.

The I-65 bridge over Wildcat Creek on Interstate 65 northbound near Lafayette is still shut down. Visit http://www.in.gov/indot/3395.htm for the official state detour route.
