Marshall County Police to Conduct Sobriety Patrols

Marshall County Police will be conducting sobriety patrols and checkpoints around the clock for the next couple of weeks. It’s part of the the 2015 nationwide Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign.

The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department says six of its officers will be working overtime as part of the effort, which runs through September 7. It’s being supported by federal funding allocated by the Traffic Safety division of the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute. According to them, there were 94 fatal crashes involving alcohol in 2014. That accounted for 13 percent of all fatal crashes, but it was a decrease from the year before.

Indiana law enforcement agencies have been taking part in the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign for more than 20 years.
