The first day of Culver Lake Fest may be over but there are still plenty of fun events packed into the remainder of the weekend.
The festivities have an early start today with registration for the Bass Fishing Family Tournament beginning at 5:30 until 7 am in the west shore public landing. The tournament itself will start at 7 and run until 11 am. The weigh-in and awards will be at 11 am at the lighthouse.
Parents can sign their children up for the kids games at the Beach Lodge window at 9 am. The games, sponsored by the Culver Park Department, will commence at 11 am. The kids games this year will include a ping pong tournament, a penny find on the beach at noon, a pedal tractor pull, a watermelon eating contest, sand sculptures, a tricycle race, limbo competition, turtle race and frog jumping contest. You must provide your own turtle or frog for the turtle race or jumping contest.
The Culver Lion’s Club is hosting a pancake and sausage breakfast at the train depot today from 7 until 9:30 am. The informational and commercial booths will be open from 9 am until 11 pm and food, games, arts and crafts will be available. Live entertainment will be performing in the west pavilion at various points throughout the day.
Parade registration starts at 9 am on the corner of Slate and College and ends at 10 am. The 32nd annual Culver Lake Fest Parade will start at 10 am. The Culver Library is collectively serving as the parade marshal and the theme of this year’s parade is ‘100 years of Reading.’ The parade starts in the downtown shopping district and ends at The Original Root Beer Stand. Awards will be presented at the information booth an hour after the parade ends. Saturday’s festivities will conclude with a fireworks display over the scenic Lake Maxinkuckee.
Sunday is your final day to attend the festival, so don’t miss your chance to join in on the fun. The Culver’s Lion’s Club will host another pancake and sausage breakfast at the train depot from 7 am until 10 am. The L’Max Bike Tour with either a 10 or 30 mile route will start at 7 am. Pre-registration is required or you can register on-site in the driveway between ‘Brockery Insurance’ and ‘The Lake House Grill’. At 8:30 am in the west pavilion a community church service is being held. Food, games, arts and crafts, commercial and informational booths will be open from 9 am until 3 pm.
Sign-up for the free throw contest is at the Beach Lodge window at 9 am. The contest starts at 11 am in the basketball courts. Children will be divided into age groups. Kids ages 10 through 12 will be in the youngest group, teens 13 to 15 will be in the second group and individuals 16 and older will be in the final group. Only the first 6 in each group to sign up can compete, so don’t delay. At 3 pm the Culver Lake Fest officially comes to a close.
