A group of concerned Culver citizens got together last Thursday to collaborate and come up with a concrete plan to present to the Culver Park Board. Tonight they get their chance to propose a way to save the iconic weeping mulberry tree that has graced the park for over a century.
Recently the tree has been added to a list of foliage in deteriorating conditions set to be cleared from the park. The main concern is curious children will climb on or play around the tree and put themselves in danger. Some community members have suggested alternatives to cutting it down such as a placing a fence around the tree or having a sign in place warning people of the age and significance.
The group of citizens aimed at saving the tree will be meeting with the park board this evening at 6:30 pm (EDT) in the Beach Lodge. If there plan is accepted the group will immediately begin collecting donations to cover the cost of preservation. This weeping mulberry tree means something different to every member of the community, attend tonight’s meeting in order to show your support for this living piece of history.
