Law enforcement and other emergency response agencies in Marshall County are more prepared for a worst-case scenario after an exercise last week.
The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department hosted an active shooter training at Menominee Elementary School in Plymouth. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security defines an active shooter as an individual actively engaged in attempting to kill people in a confined space or other populated area. Such situations are unpredictable and evolve quickly.
Law enforcement instructors from Marshall County, and the Plymouth and Bourbon Police Departments designed this training to be as realistic as possible and invoke tactical decision making. Plymouth Fire and EMS also took part. Organizers say this provides everyone a different point of view and builds strong working relationships. All participants were presented with different scenarios involving an active shooter in a school.
