More severe storms are in the forecast during the overnight hours, with damaging winds, large hail, dangerous lightning, flash flooding and isolated tornadoes possible.
Before going to bed, turn up the volume on cell phones to ensure you hear alerts, and make sure your weather apps are set to provide notifications if weather watches or warnings are issued. A watch means conditions are favorable for severe weather.
Also be sure cell phones and other electronic devices are fully charged before going to bed so they will be available in the event of a power outage. If laptops or other electronics are plugged in to charge overnight, be sure they are plugged into a surge protector.
Officials with the Indiana Department of Homeland Security also recommend having an all-hazards weather radio near the bed or sleeping area. Turn the volume up enough to ensure alerts can be heard while sleeping. They can provide important details about severe weather, including safety precautions to follow.
