The Indiana Secretary of State’s Office says 12-percent of the 2.6-million eligible voters cast a ballot in the Hoosier State in May.
Connie Lawson released her office’s Voter Turnout Report for the May municipal primary elections earlier this week.
Only voters who live in a town with an election this year, or a school corporation conducting a tax referendum had the opportunity to vote. 20 counties did not hold a primary election.
Marshall County saw 756 ballots cast, or 26-percent of eligible voters. Kosciusko County saw 17.4-percent voter turnout.
According to the Secretary of State, May’s election saw a significant cost savings to local counties after implementing legislation to set-up vote centers.
Lawson says she will be conducting a municipal voter outreach campaign to remind residents to register to vote in the fall.
