Marshall County Sheriff’s Department Recaps Click It or Ticket Blitz

Officers from the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department issued 33 citations for lack of seatbelt usage/child restraints during a recent Click It or Ticket enforcement campaign.

Officers also handed out 20 additional citations and 40 warnings for speeding or other infractions, according to a sheriff’s department news release. During the 17-day enforcement period they also made arrests for operating a vehicle while intoxicated and operating a vehicle without ever receiving a license.

Statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration indicate seatbelts saved an estimated 12,174 lives nationwide in 2012. Last year 87 percent of drivers and passengers across the country wore seatbelts. In Indiana, that number was at nearly 92 percent in 2013.

Click It or Ticket is an annual enforcement effort supported by federal highway safety funding. The Indiana Criminal Justice Institute distributes funding to more than 250 participating Indiana law enforcement agencies.
