The Marshall County Council will have the final say on whether major grant funds are able to be brought to the area.
During Monday morning’s meeting, the Council will consider forming a Regional Development Authority. The partnership would be formed in conjunction with St. Joseph and Elkhart counties.
Although Marshall County would be competing with neighboring Regional Development Authorities for one of two grants, the funds would be used for population retention and expansion.
Funds were finalized in the two-year state budget and would provide $42-million over two years for the projects. Michiana Partnership – which has been working with Marshall County Economic Development – presented information to the Marshall County Commissioners last week. The Commissioners voted to endorse forming the partnership.
Grant funds would be awarded later this year, but an application is due in July. Today’s Marshall County Council meeting begins at 9:00 EDT at the Marshall County Building.
