A flash flood watch is in effect for Northern Indiana through this evening. The National Weather Service warns thunderstorms with heavy rainfall will spread over the area this morning and continue through this afternoon. Localized rainfall amounts of one to three inches in a short time are possible.
A combination of saturated ground and high rivers and reservoirs will leave little room for runoff. Should heavy rain occur, rapid runoff could lead to flash flooding in low-lying areas including creeks, streams and areas with poor drainage.
A watch means conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding, which is very dangerous. If conditions are eminent, flash flood warnings will be issued. Remember, turn around, don’t drown. Road surfaces may be washed out under standing water, and it may also be deeper than it appears.
