Friday was the final day to submit letters of interest to Bremen Public School Corporation and four individuals applied expressing interest in the open position on the Bremen School Board. The interested individuals include Sheila Kelty, John Bohannon, David Bailey and Charlie Houin.
Each existing board member had the information forwarded to them and they will deliberate the pros and cons of each candidate prior to an executive session scheduled to take place an hour before the school’s regularly scheduled board meeting on Tuesday, July 7th.
During the executive session the board will narrow the list down to three candidates and then they will announce the nominee they’ve chosen for the open board seat during the regular session. Superintendent Jim White said that the criteria the board will take into consideration is experience in similar positions, reasoning behind wanting to become a board member, amount of service to the community and other general qualifications that would be considered for any other place of employment.
White went on to say what will be expected of the candidate that is selected, “They’re going to be expected to be present at all board functions and meetings and they will have to abide by general board member conduct. We’ll give them an indoctrination into some of the pros and cons of being a board member. It’s not as easy as one would think sometimes.”
Superintendent White said the next step will be to get information from the selected candidate about their vision and experience. White hopes the new addition to the board will mesh well with the rest of the leadership and assist in making Bremen Public a better place.
