A local police department is raising money for a new K9. The Bremen Police Department’s existing drug and tracking dog, Quido, is seven years old and on the downhill side of his service with the department. He joined the force in 2011, and has been involved in nearly 100 narcotic arrests. Quido has also helped to track fugitives and locate missing persons.
Quido has no plans to retire any time soon, but the department is raising money now to buy a new dog and ensure their K9 program remains viable. A new dog will cost about $15,000. The department is also raising money to pay for the annual costs of keeping a dog, which include vet bills, food and continuing education for the K9 and handler.
A car show and fundraiser for the Bremen Police Department K9 program are planned tomorrow (Saturday) at Best Chevrolet Buick in Bremen from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. All cars, trucks and motorcycles are welcome. Officers and dispatchers will take their turns in a dunk tank from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m., and coffee with a cop is scheduled from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Quido will also put on demonstrations, including a bite sleeve, narcotic vehicle search and bite suit.
