Plymouth’s Mayor is hoping to attract some volunteers to an event that recognizes two holidays.
The Mayor’s Youth Council will hold their third annual Earth Day/Arbor Day Celebration in River Park Square at the end of April. Mayor Mark Senter says the event will also act as a day to clean-up the area.
Those planning to volunteer are being asked to wear work gloves and dress appropriately for the weather.
The celebration is not just for picking up trash, though. According to a press release from the Mayor’s office, several trees will be planted in the community. Trees are often considered to beautify landscaping.
Last year’s event brought more than 100 volunteers to assist in the clean-up.
A short ceremony will take place this year to proclaim Plymouth as a Tree City USA. The designation comes from the National Arbor Day Foundation. Four core standards have to be met in order to qualify for the title, including: maintaining a tree board, celebrating Arbor Day, having a tree ordinance, and spending a certain amount of funds on planting trees.
The event will take place April 25th from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
