Despite scheduling three virtual learning days, the Plymouth Board of Education needed to take additional action.
During last night’s School Board meeting, Superintendent Dan Tyree recommended adding an extra day of class to the end of the school year. Plymouth is implementing the extra day due to the number of weather related school cancellations.
Tyree says he reviewed the matter with the Plymouth Education Association and school Principals.
“The one thing that made the most sense as they talked to me about their instructional time was: to just add a day onto the end of the year,” says Tyree.
Due to the presence of technology in the district, the Plymouth School Corporation plans for e-learning days twice in April and one Saturday in May.
The Plymouth School’s Administration is seeing the days as a test run for the 2015/16 school year.
The school corporation must receive annual permission for the virtual learning days from the state of Indiana. Tyree says scheduling the fourth make-up day created some conflicts.
“We were running into things like Prom and different things like that so next year we’ll be ready to do them the day [snow days] happen,” says Tyree.
The Plymouth School Board approved the addition of one day to the end of the school year, unanimously.
The last day for grades Kindergarten through 8th grade will be June 2nd. The final day of classes for grades 9 through 12 will be June 3rd in Plymouth.
