Bike Shop Holds Ribbon Cutting Under New Management and Location

A business has decided to have a new opening in Culver after changing ownership and changing locations.

Joe Barnes took over Ride On Bike Rentals in January of this year. After more than one month spent taking inventory and making preparations, the shop hosted a ribbon cutting in late March.

The store sells and rents bikes in addition to making repairs. Barnes says he started working on bikes more seriously after retiring a handful of years ago.

“As every retiree knows, you can’t retire and do nothing so I started working on a few bikes out of my garage,” says Barnes. “It grew to the point where I needed to step the game up a little bit, which I did.”

Barnes says he has been working on bicycles for about 40 years.

Ride On Bike Rentals was previously in a space consisting of several hundred square feet. The shop is now located in the 100 block of East Jefferson Street in Culver. The new space is a bit bigger, coming in at more than 2-thousand square feet.

Chris Chambers previously owned the bike shop for seven or eight years, but accepted a job in Colorado before deciding to sell the location.

Barnes says community residents will notice a few changes.

“I’m, of course, doing repairs and then I have added quite a few higher quality used bikes to the shop,” says Barnes.

The ribbon cutting for the business was held on Saturday.

The Town of Culver has plans for additional bike and walking trails. Barnes says he has had conversations with City officials about providing a safe place for residents to ride.
