The Culver Parks Department says they’re still working to fill pier slots for the 2015 season.
The slots allow residents of Culver to park their boats in the water when not in use. During Monday night’s Park Board meeting, it was learned that 80-percent of the pier space has been leased.
Park Superintendent Marc Hayden says individuals who purchased space last year still have an opportunity to renew.
“We’ll have some extras, but we still have to wait to hear from our original clients,” says Hayden.
The Parks Department says those they do not hear back from will be contacted in March. If they still haven’t been reached, leftover space could be distributed to those on a wait list.
The pier was recently reconfigured which allows for 12 additional spaces. Hayden says it’s quite a money generator for the department.
“It’s in excess of $150,000 worth of income which is great,” says Hayden. “It also helps offset the cost, they purchased those materials quite a few years ago, but now the park owns it. So yeah, it’s our biggest income generator.”
The Parks Department says the application process has been computerized to allow for better tracking of boats and record keeping.
More discussion may be had on the pier space at the Culver Park Board’s first meeting March 16th.
