Culver Delays Wind Energy Decision

Months of research has still left questions for a few Culver residents.

The Culver Town Council held a public hearing last night to amend the zoning ordinance to allow for Wind Energy Conversion Systems. The Town’s Plan Commission has been researching the matter for some time.

Culver Town Council President Ginny Bess Munroe says this has been a recurring issue in the community.

“It’s come before us before in different iterations. It’s been an issue in the community, it’s really important to some people whether we have them or not, and it’s something a lot of people are passionate about,” says Munroe.

A similar item was brought before the Town Council in years past, but was ultimately kicked back to the commission for further consideration.

Among resident concerns last night were the allowable colors of the systems, and a familiar concern over the potential sound the wind systems make.

Munroe says the language is quite complex, and time needs to be taken to review it.

“To me it’s more a matter of being practical about it and giving these people time to look at it,” says Munroe.

The Culver Town Council decided to take the matter back up at their next meeting to allow new board members to acquaint themselves with the proposal, as well as consider their votes.
