Plymouth Council Approves 2017 Salaries for Elected Officials, Lowers Increase for Council Members

Plymouth IndianaThe Plymouth Common Council has passed an ordinance setting 2017 salaries for the city’s elected officials, but not before some changes were made to it.

Council member Shawn Grobe felt the ordinance as presented gave a disproportionately large pay increase to council members. “I personally am fine with the increases for the mayor and the clerk,” he said. “My feeling on the $500 increase – it’s almost a six-percent increase – for the councilmen, I think that’s too far. I’d like to see something more in line with what we see for the mayor and the clerk-treasurer, which is less than two-percent. I’ve proposed one-and-a-half [percent].”

The council approved the salary ordinance with Grobe’s amendment, in spite of opposition from council member Gary Cook. Cook said he would rather have seen the pay rate stay the same as this year’s for all the city’s elected officials.
