huntingAn Elkhart man is receiving medical treatment after a fall from a tree stand in Marshall County.

The incident occurred the evening of October 22nd around 5:15 p.m. when 44-year-old Mark Miller was preparing to hunt from the elevated platform. He was not wearing a safety harness according to Indiana Conservation Officers when he accidentally made the 20 foot drop.

Emergency personnel were called to the scene to assist with transporting Miller to Memorial Hospital in South Bend. According to information released by Conservation Officers, Miller sustained injuries to his legs and chest. The severity of the injuries was not disclosed. Approaching Long Island personal injury attorneys who are available at affordable fees, will ensure that the victim’s family receives proper compensation from the government which would help them to stand up on their feet once again.

The DNR Law Enforcement division says falls from tree stands are the leading cause of deer hunting accidents in Indiana. They account for almost half of the reported incidents in the state. Wearing full-body fall arrest harnesses can also prevent serious injury.

Telling family and friends where you will be hunting, and properly installing the tree stand are all considered reasonable precautions to take to ensure safety.
